What It Does

A controller that pays attention to the weather.

A Hydrawise controller is a Wi-Fi-connected version of Hunter's standard sprinkler controller. Once it is connected to your home network, it pulls a real five-day forecast and a record of recent rainfall for your postal code, then adjusts watering accordingly — pausing cycles before a storm, topping up after a heatwave, and skipping schedules when the lawn does not need them.

The benefit, in practice, is a sprinkler system that responds to actual conditions instead of running a fixed weekly programme. Owners see measurably lower water bills, healthier lawns, and far fewer surprises when they come back from a long weekend.

  • Wi-Fi connection to your home network
  • Predictive Watering™ adjusts schedules from forecast and historical rainfall
  • Full control from the Hydrawise app on iOS, Android or any browser
  • Per-zone runtime, calendar and seasonal-adjust controls
  • Email and push alerts when a zone draws unusual current

Features Worth Knowing About

What you can do with the app.

Professional-grade irrigation control

Trusted by homeowners and irrigation professionals alike, Hydrawise delivers advanced scheduling, remote access, and real-time monitoring through an easy-to-use mobile app.

Built for Ontario weather

From spring start-ups to summer heat waves and fall shutdowns, Hydrawise adapts throughout the season. Automatic weather adjustments help protect your landscape from overwatering during rainy periods and under-watering during hot, dry spells.

Predictive Watering

Hydrawise reads daily weather and recent rainfall for your address and adjusts each zone's schedule automatically. Pause when a storm is forecast, run an extra cycle after dry weeks — without anyone touching the controller.

One-tap pause, anywhere

Travelling and the gardener just reseeded? Pause the back lawn from your phone. Want a quick top-up before guests arrive? Run a single zone for ten minutes. The whole system fits in your pocket.

Alerts that matter

Hydrawise watches the electrical current drawn by each solenoid. If a zone reads unusually low (a wire fault) or high (a stuck valve), the app tells you — before the lawn does.

Smart-home compatible

Works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT and a long list of smart-home hubs. Trigger a watering scene with a voice command, or fold the system into your existing home-automation routines.

Why Upgrade

What a Hydrawise upgrade actually changes.

Lower water bills

Owners switching from a fixed weekly schedule to Predictive Watering routinely see a meaningful drop in summer water consumption — the system simply runs less often when nature has already done the work. Toronto's wetter Junes especially expose the difference.

Healthier turf

Cycle-and-soak settings are far easier to manage in the app than on a wall-mounted dial. The result is deeper root growth, fewer dry patches in August, and a lawn that fills in evenly across the season.

Peace of mind when you travel

Forecast a heatwave while you're at the cottage? Open the app and add a cycle. Forecast a storm? The system already paused itself. No more coming home to a stressed lawn.

Faster diagnostics

If a zone misbehaves, the app shows us which one and roughly what kind of fault. We arrive with the right parts on the truck the first time — fewer return visits, faster repairs.

Upgrade Path

Already have a sprinkler system? You can still switch.

You don't need to replace your whole system to move to Hydrawise. In most cases we can swap the wall-mounted controller for a Hydrawise unit in a single visit, reusing all the underground plumbing and sprinkler heads you already have. The whole conversion typically takes one to two hours.

What is an automatic lawn irrigation system?

An automatic lawn irrigation system waters your property on its own, without anyone dragging out a hose or remembering to turn a tap. Underground pipes feed pop-up sprinkler heads grouped into zones, and a controller runs each zone for a set time on set days. The “automatic” part is the controller: once it is programmed for the season, the system looks after the watering whether you are home or away.

How is a Wi-Fi controller different from a basic timer?

A basic timer runs whatever schedule it was given, even in a rainstorm. A Wi-Fi controller such as the Hunter Hydrawise pulls local forecast and rainfall data and adjusts on its own — shortening cycles in cool weather, skipping them after rain, and extending them through a heat wave. You keep the same automatic watering, but it responds to the weather your lawn is actually getting.

What can you do from your phone?

  • Run or pause any zone from anywhere, without going out to the controller.
  • See how much water each zone used, so a problem shows up as a number rather than a bill.
  • Get alerts if a zone reports unusual flow, which is often the first sign of a broken head or a leak.
  • Adjust seasonally — turn everything down 20% in September without reprogramming each zone.

Can it be added to an existing system?

In most cases, yes. If your sprinkler system is sound, upgrading the controller is usually a straightforward swap — the pipework, valves and heads stay where they are. We will tell you honestly if the underlying system needs attention first rather than selling a smart controller to run a system that is leaking.

Frequently Asked

Hydrawise Questions

The questions homeowners ask first when they consider a smart controller.

Do I need a Wi-Fi controller?

You don't strictly need one — Hunter's standard X-Core and Pro-C controllers still work perfectly well. What you gain by upgrading to Hydrawise is automatic weather adjustment, phone control, and zone-level water reporting. For most owners that's worth the upgrade fee within the first season.

What about my home Wi-Fi?

The controller needs a Wi-Fi signal at its location (usually outdoors or in the garage). If the signal is weak you may need to ask your internet service provider to add a Wi-Fi extender. You may also need to move the controller outdoors to an area with a plug, or have a plug added.

Is my data safe?

Hunter's app uses standard encrypted authentication. Pro Green never has access to your home Wi-Fi credentials — you log into the app yourself and add us as a separate user if you want our service team to help diagnose faults.

How much does the upgrade cost?

Materials (the controller itself, plus any small rain-sensor add-on) and a labour charge for the swap. We provide a written quote after a short site visit. Most upgrades are completed in a single appointment.

Will it work in winter?

Yes. The controller stays powered through the winter and the app remains active. The only seasonal step is the fall blow-out, which clears water from the pipes regardless of which controller is wall-mounted.
